Last week during an Uptown carjacking, Meg lost her dog Skeeter, an 11 year old Jack Russell & Chihuahua mix, when the theives who drove off with her SUV, drove off with Skeeter inside.  The car was later recovered in Jefferson Parish but Skeeter was no where to be found.  There is some hope though, they found a different leash in the car than what was on Skeeter, so Meg’s hopes of finding her best friend are lifted.

The Louisiana Human society recently increased the reward leading to Skeeter’s return to $1,000.  Pam Fortner & Earl Bernhardt, co-owners of Tropical Isle have also joined in the effort to see that Skeeter is returned safely by contributing an additional $2500 to the reward.

Every year Where Y’At Magazine runs the Best Bartenders in New Orleans Contest, this is year is no exception.  This year’s contest is sponsored by Wild Turkey 81 — just in time for Thanksgiving (aka Turkey Day).  Bartenders from across all parts of New Orleans are participating and are giving out their fun recipes for special drinks using Wild Turkey 81.

Turkey Tea

• 1 oz. Wild Turkey 81
• 4 oz. Pineapple Juice
• ¼ oz. Malibu Rum
• ¼ oz. Peach Schnapps
• ¼ oz. Cranberry Juice
• ¼ oz. Orange Juice
• Lemon & Lime Slices

Shake. Pour in glass.

Top off with cherry juice & garnish with cherry.

This past weekend we celebrated in style!  The owners of Tropical Isle, Earl Bernhardt and Pam Fortner kicked things off by presenting Debi & Bryan a plaque commemorating their 20 years of dedication to Tropical Isle as well as popping open some champagne and presenting a special bottle to Debi & Bryan.

Debi & The Deacons perform weekly at Tropical Isle Original on Toulouse & Bourbon as well as at Tropical Isle on Orleans Avenue and Bourbon Street.  You can always check out our Tropical Isle entertainment schedule to see where to catch them live when you are here in New Orleans or you can now watch them live via our streaming web cams.

Despite the 0-4 start for the Saints, fans are still holding out some hope that they’ll muster out a win this weekend against the San Diego Chargers.  It’s been a tough go of it that last few weeks for Saints fans, but we still hold out some hope we’ll make it into the post season and maybe, just maybe be that first hometown team to play in the Super Bowl.

But all of us here at Tropical Isle know there are many other fans here in the French Quarter. A few weeks ago we had some Pittsburgh Steelers fans in who collected over 39 toy sharks from our Shark Attack Drinks! On Saturdays our locations are filled with all different college football fans and it’s a great time when you get to see the friendly rivarly going on.

Our bands get into it as well, playing favorite songs like “Sweet Home Alabama” for those “Bama Fans” for rather large tips that manage to rile up the LSU Tiger fans to have the bands change “Alabama” to “Louisiana” in the song.

No matter who you root for or where you’re from, all of our locations will welcome you with open arms as you cheer on your favorite teams.  We’ve got large projection screens at Tropical Isle on Bourbon & Orleans and a brand new one at Tropical Isle Bayou Club.  Funky Pirate also has a beautiful 80″ flat screen HD TV to watch the games from too. So if you’re in the French Quarter this weekend and not at the SuperDome, stop on in, grab a Hand Grenade or a Shark Attack and cheer on your favorite team!

Construction on the Corner of Toulouse & Bourbon where Tropical Isle Original is Located

In preparation for this great sporting event, the city of New Orleans is putting the French Quarter through a much needed “face lift” of it’s own (much like our recent one!).  Throughout the next few months streets and sidewalks around the French Quarter are getting repaired, replaced and re-surfaced so that all of you football fans who are coming to cheer on your teams will have a safer experience when walking around our streets.

The construction on the sidewalk corners has finally hit Bourbon Street.  This week the corner at Tropical Isle Original is being worked on.  Despite the orange webbing, cones, flashing lights and “road closed” signs, Tropical Isle Original is still open!

As the construction progresses, we’ll likely see them working on the roads during the daytime hours as well as the sidewalks and corners near our Tropical Isle other locations.  Tropical Isle Bourbon, at the corners of Orleans & Bourbon will remain open just like TI Original has throughout this construction … so don’t let those orange cones fool you, we are still open to get your Hand Grenades, Shark Attacks and Horny Gators.

Construction Messes With Our Internet

If you ever noticed, there are not “telephone poles” in the French Quarter.  All of our wiring is underground.  That being said, sometimes this construction messes with our cable connection.  When that happens both our wifi and live streaming webcams might have difficulty operating.  Not to worry though, its usually a 1-2 hour issue and comes back when Cox Cable restores what went down.

So if you are a big fan of our webcams that stream our entertainers on stage live to your computer and you encounter a web cam not streaming, just check back in an hour or two.  If it’s not back up, feel free to send a message through our contact form to give us a heads up.

As much as we like to be in 5 locations at once, sometimes we need a little help from you, our friends!

Our new design will allow us to be a lot more interactive with you our customers!  Not only that, but our ENTIRE logo store is now online!  You can order t-shirts & hats, novelties, jewelry, music and much more along with being able to have our famous drink mixes like the Hand Grenade delivered to your door step.

Check Out Our Live Streaming Web Cameras!

We’ve heard how much you love our old web camera that showed images of the corner of Orleans & Bourbon, so we’ve gone an upgraded our camera to live streaming, thanks to services from PlayJones!!  You can see what’s going on out on Bourbon Street 24 hours a day, 7 days a week even when you are away from the French Quarter or you can give a little wave back to your friends at home while you’re visiting here.

We’ve also heard how much you love our live entertainment so along with our streaming street camera we have live streaming cameras of each of our stages at Tropical Isle Original, Tropical Isle Bourbon, Little Tropical Isle, The Bayou Club and also at the Funky Pirate (which is now open 24 hours a day!).
